LET'S DO THIS!
Step 1: Map out your installation.
- Locate the footboard and headboard. The headboard is taller than the footboard.
- Place the headboard or footboard up against the wall in the area you are going to install the bed.
- Using the headboard or footboard as a guide, place the left and right-side rails parallel to each other. Make sure that the slots for the wooden slats are on the inside edge of the rail.
Step 2: Connect the side rails to the footboard & headboard.
- Working together with the other person, move the footboard to the bottom edge of the side rails. Make sure the female slot of the footboard is facing the male metal hooked notch of the rail.
- Working one rail at a time – line up the male and female connector. Then lift the rail up slightly. Slide the rail towards the footboard while applying pressure to the bottom edge of the footboard so that it doesn’t slide away and lock the two pieces together.
- Do not use the mallet yet.
- Repeat this on the other edge of the footboard.
- After the footboard pieces are connected, repeat the process with the headboard.
Step 3: Secure the rails to the headboard
- After you are certain all four corners are securely inserted into their slots, use a rubber mallet and a piece of wood on each corner of the bed.
- Give it four or five good pops to lock everything into place.
- Do not hammer into the rail without something to absorb the blow to avoid damaging the wood.
- Test the connection. The headboard, footboard, and rails should be firmly connected.
Step 4: Put the vertical posts into the headboard.
- Identify the vertical headboard posts. They are the shortest pieces of all the arm pieces you have to work with.
- Identify the bottom edge of the vertical canopy arms for the headboard. They will have the female hole in its base.
- Identify the inner edge of the vertical canopy arm. The inner edge will have two female slots. The outer edge will be smooth.
- Slide each vertical arm into place on the headboard.
Step 5: Put the vertical canopy arms into the footboard.
- Identify the vertical footboard canopy arms. They are the longer of the vertical canopy pieces. They will have a female hole in the base.
- Identify the inner edge of the vertical canopy arm. The inner edge will have two female slots. The outer edge will be smooth.
- Slide each vertical arm into place on the footboard.
- Refer to the illustration above for identification.
- At the end of Step 5, the bed should look like the illustration below.
Step 6: Place the horizontal (rail length arms)
- Find the two longest canopy arms you have left to work with. On each end of the canopy arm there will be a male notch.
- Identify which is the bottom and top of each arm. Top side will be the side where the male notch runs flush with the arm. Bottom side will not be flush with the arm - about a half an inch from the edge.
- Working with another person, place a ladder or stool at the head and foot of the bed.
- Lift the canopy arm together. Slide it into the female slots at the same time.
- Do not force the arm into place. If it gets stuck or doesn't slid into place:
- Confirm you are putting the right arm into place (the top edge should be smooth/flush with the male notch.
- Lightly jiggle and adjust the vertical canopy pole to let it slide into place.
- If that doesn't work, take both ends out and try to insert the arm as level as possible.
Step 7: Place the horizontal (head and footboard length arms)
- Find the remaining horizontal canopy arms.
- Identify the top and bottom edge of the arm like you did in Step 6.
- Place your ladders or step stools.
- Working together with your partner, slide the horizontal arms into place to complete the canopy frame.
- At the end of step 7 the bed should look like the following illustration:
Step 8: Place the 4 horizontal slats into the rails of the base
- Find the remaining 4 horizontal slats.
- Drop them into the slots on the inner sides of the rails.
ASSEMBLY IS DONE!
